The Nature Coast is a place where cute critters aren’t animated or mechanical, but are the real thing. A place where outdoor enthusiasts can hike and play among natural springs, rivers, and thousands of acres of nature preserve. Check out these five day trips where the fun remains wild and natural.

Weeki Wachee Springs

Each day more than 117 million gallons of fresh 74-degree water bubbles up out of subterranean caverns. From the springs, the Weeki Wachee River flows over 12 miles to the Gulf of Mexico. The translucent water and shallow sandy bottom of the river create a dazzling experience. Visitors can take a riverboat cruise, watch an underwater mermaid show, and check out Buccaneer Bay, Florida’s only spring fed water park.

Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge

The Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge encompasses over 31,000 acres of saltwater bays, estuaries and brackish marshes at the mouth of the Chassahowitzka River. Perfect of bird watching, the park is home to over 250 species of birds as well as 50 species of reptiles and amphibians and at least 25 different species of mammals including the endangered West Indian Manatee.

Crystal River

Spring is scalloping season in Crystal River. Take a cruise out on the Gulf of Mexico where the scenery is beautiful and the scallops are plentiful. Upon your return, take a swim with the manatees. On land, Crystal River is an archaeological site that houses Native American burial grounds.

Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park

Visitors can see West Indian manatees every day of the year from the park’s underwater observatory in the main spring and visit with black bears, bobcats, white-tailed deer, American alligators, American crocodiles, and river otters. Recreational opportunities include picnicking, nature study, and bird watching.

Homosassa Butterfly

Flutter over to Homosassa Butterfly, the largest butterfly attraction and educational facility on the Nature Coast. Stroll through the natural butterfly habitat filled with hundreds of colorful winged wonders feeding on flowering nectar plants while hearing the peaceful sounds of nature.

Hailing from Sora, Italy, three young brothers opened the doors to Condrain in Toronto circa 1954. Condrain is one of the development companies building GlenLakes in Weeki Wachee, Florida. Now celebrating over 60 years in business, Condrain has become one of the largest and most successful infrastructure construction companies in North America. Check out these impressive numbers:

  • Condrain installs over 120,000 m of sewers and water mains in any given year. That’s the same distance from Toronto to Niagara Falls.
  • Condrain services over 12,000 residential lots per year. That’s equivalent to a new city the size of Aurora, Ontario every other year!
  • Condrain provides water to new communities through its pipelines to the tune of over one billion liters of water per year!
  • Over its 60 plus years in business, Condrain has laid enough pipe to take you to the center of the Earth.
  • Condrain is part owner of GlenLakes on the Nature Coast bringing their quality and expertise to the community.

Condrain has always been about infrastructure, and delivering it in a form that’s efficient, timely and incredibly reliable, exceeding industry quality standards. The company and its divisions now deliver a 360-degree development process including the community of GlenLakes.

Among other trusted developers, Condrain sets the stage for GlenLakes’ outstanding portfolio of homes. For those seeking a new address in Florida, GlenLakes might just fit the bill. It’s tax time and while many people don’t look forward to filling out those government forms, Floridians have something to smile about. Weather isn’t the only benefit to moving south, tax deductions can be a serious perk for Florida homeowners. Here are the top tax deductions Florida homeowners may qualify for:

Florida Homestead Exemption: For snowbirds making the move from high-tax environments, Florida’s Homestead Exemption is a welcome bonus. The Exemption is available to bona fide Florida residents who live in, and claim a residence as their permanent and primary home. This Florida perk can save homeowners up to $50,000 in property taxes.

Missing the Mortgage Interest Deduction: Itemized deductions on your Federal income taxes can be a great way to lower your tax bill. You can deduct the interest portion of your mortgage payments. That might mean your itemized deductions will now exceed the standard, saving you tax dollars. Your first mortgage isn’t the only loan that qualifies, either. In many cases, you can also deduct interest on home equity loans, second mortgages, and home equity lines of credit.

Neglecting Your Home Office: To qualify for this deduction, your office space must be used regularly and only for business. You can deduct a proportionate amount of a number of expenses, including insurance, repairs, utilities, services, and depreciation, which can really add up. Or you can use the simple method of multiplying the square footage of the office by $5 for your total deduction.

Tax benefits can make homeownership in Florida even more attractive than the year round warm weather. GlenLakes in Hernando County not only had a low milage rate of 18.7875 for 2015 compared to other Florida counties but also has an outstanding portfolio of homes. Designed for easy living and gracious entertaining, GlenLakes offers estate homesites for building or choose from a stunning inventory of homes. For more information on becoming a homeowner in GlenLakes, click here.
