October is finally here, and that means the holidays are soon to come.  When you think of October, what comes to mind?   Do you think of Halloween, pumpkins, costumes and fall inspired festivities? In the GlenLakes community, we have all of it! See what’s in store for the fall season.

Octoberfest: As per German tradition, kick off your holiday season with Hernando County brewery Marker 48’s First Annual Octoberfest! From October 15-16 join in the pumpkin carving, dog races (featuring the Running of the Wieners Race), live music and good old fashion beer guzzling to bring in the Autumn season with a bang. Proceeds benefit the Holy Cross Lutheran Church and the Humane Society. Halloween is near, so come in costume with your dog. Don’t go running scared, the witches brew is almost ready for you!

Live Mermaid Shows: Weeki Wachee is the only city with live mermaids! Performing on a daily schedule at the Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, you’ll be in awe at what you see. Watch the mermaids as they perform shows like their version of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid at 11am and 3pm daily. Enjoy a special Ghost Busters Mermaid Show in the spirit of Halloween! Doors open 30 minutes prior to the show opening.

Wild ‘n Wicked Nights: Jump into the season with Weeki Wachee’s annual Halloween festival, Wild ‘n Wicked Nights! There’s tons of haunted treats for adults and children: Ghostbusters Mermaid Show, The Quest Show, The Funhouse Maze, The Haunted Mine Shaft, Kids Fun Maze, Torture Trail, Carnival (extra fee) and Food trucks. Only $6 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. This event will be held October 21-22 and 28-29 from 7-11p.m. Don’t miss out on all the Wild and Wicked fun!

Brooksville Fall Festival: It’s officially fall and though it may still be warm outside, you can just sense that chill in the air. The leaves may not turn colors here, but we celebrate the autumn season anyway with the Brooksville Fall Festival, October 20, 3-7p.m. This event is sponsored by the Family Chiropractic Health Center. It’s fun for the whole family, with a water slide, obstacle course, face painting and balloon animals! Don’t forget to indulge in some boneless ribs, hotdogs and more. Enjoy the local vendors and if you’re feeling tense stop by the chiropractic office for a free chair massage!
