If you’re looking for a unique – but quick – weekend experience, look no further than Wat Mongkolratanaram, or Wat Tampa for short. This open-air Thai market is right in our own backyard – Who knew? This could be the perfect getaway without the hassle, or time, of international travel.
Hosted at a gorgeous Buddhist temple, the Sunday market has been drawing people to the area for over 30 years. Dozens of vendors sell all sorts of authentic Thai foods, ingredients, orchids and more on the temple grounds next to the Palm River. Visitors can purchase the reasonably priced items – often between $1 and $5 – and enjoy them on one of the many picnic tables set out under the live oak trees. Many GlenLakes residents are already frequent visitors to this exotic treat.
Beyond the tasty and colorful foods, what makes the experience so amazing is the setting. Religious services and meditations, are held at the temple on Sundays between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Visitors are welcome to observe the services but are encouraged to read up on proper etiquette in advance. Not to mention the architecture and design of the temple itself! You’ll feel like you’re a world away, without ever leaving the sunshine state.
Just a quick drive, GlenLakes offers a lifestyle unmatched and captures everything to love about the Florida lifestyle. From natural surroundings, championship golf, country club amenities, captivating home designs and Buddhist temples just around the corner.
